AG urges patience in Adib's case

Attorney-General Idrus Harun has called for patience when quizzed over the much-anticipated announcement on further actions in the death case of firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim.

Idrus, however, did not disclose the amount of time needed for the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) to release their statement.

"Please wait patiently, we will make a decision later.

"We will issue a statement at a later date," Idrus told Malaysiakini today.

Meanwhile, Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador said only the AGC was authorised to issue an update on the 2018 case which continues to capture public attention, long after the outcome of its inquest which concluded in 2019.

Asked whether police were done with its fresh probe on the case, Abdul Hamid insisted: "The AGC will release a statement."

Sources, however, told Malaysiakini that the police have concluded its investigations, without identifying any suspects.

"The police have investigated until the end. No suspects were able to be identified. Not a single one.

"The Coroner's Court findings was out of the ordinary," said the source.

Firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim

Adib, 24, was a member of the Emergency Medical Rescue Services unit from the Subang Jaya Fire and Rescue Station who sustained serious injuries during a commotion at the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in USJ 25, Subang Jaya on Nov 27, 2018.

He succumbed to his injuries and died while receiving treatment at the National Heart Institute on Dec 17, 2018.

The inquest was called following a dispute over Adib's cause of death, whether it was due to an accident or a deliberate attack.

On Sept 27, 2019, the Shah Alam Coroner's Court ruled that Adib's death was due to a criminal act by more than two or three unidentified persons.

However, to date, no one has been arrested and charged with the alleged murder.

Last December, the government reaffirmed its commitment to deliver justice for Adib's family, left in a state of uncertainty after the inquest ruling.

Since then, Adib's father Mohd Kassim Abdul Hamid had expressed regret over the authorities apparent delay in solving the case.

Pressure was also being mounted on the government by various Umno politicians as well as Muslim NGO Pembela. - Mkini
