Bersatu Youth figure charged with drug offence

 

A Bersatu Youth figure Adam Asmuni has been charged under Section 39(B) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 last Friday.

According to Kuala Lumpur city police chief Saiful Azly Kamaruddin, the 35-year-old Adam was slapped with one charge related to the Act, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment.

"He was slapped with one charge under Section 39B at the Kuala Lumpur Courts Complex on Jan 29," he told Malaysiakini.

However, Saiful did not divulge the details of the charge.

The court action came after police allegedly caught Adam with illicit substances on Jan 20, and further investigations led them to his highrise home in Ampang, where they allegedly seized 1.5kg of dried cannabis leaves, nine cannabis plants, and a large amount of liquid believed to contain narcotics.

His wife Lyiana Roslee, 34, and a foreigner were also allegedly arrested at the premises. Lyiana was charged with trafficking and producing drugs at the Ampang Magistrate's Court yesterday, while the other individual has yet to be charged.

During the 2018 general election, Adam was Bersatu's candidate for a parliamentary seat in Perak.

Checks on the online cause list showed that Adam was brought before magistrate (Criminal Jurisdiction) Wong Chai Sia at the Kuala Lumpur Courts Complex at 12pm on Jan 29.

The online cause list also listed the case as fixed for further mention before the same magistrate at 12pm on April 19.  - Mkini
