Covid-19 (Feb 22): 2,192 new cases, more than half in Klang Valley

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported 2,192 new Covid-19 cases as of noon today.

The Klang Valley made up more than half of the new cases today. 

Other states with more than 100 new cases include Sarawak, Johor, Perak, Penang and Sabah.

On the flip side, the number of active cases continued to decline as recoveries outpaced new cases.

Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah reported a total of 3,414 new recoveries today.

The number of patients in the intensive care unit is also at the lowest level since Jan 14.

Deaths

Another six people died from Covid-19, bringing the death toll to 1,062.

The fatalities today were from Selangor (2), Johor (1), Pahang (1), Sabah (1) and Sarawak (1).

The youngest casualty was a 17-year-old non-citizen boy who was brought in dead at the Sultan Ismail Hospital in Johor Bahru.

The next youngest was a 25-year-old Malaysian man who also had a mediastinal tumour and died at Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital in Kuantan.

The remaining fatalities were aged between 50 to 84, all of whom are Malaysians.

14 clusters were declared resolved while eight new clusters have emerged.

The clusters that were declared resolved are Parit Jamil, Manik, Batu Lapan, Paloh Tumpat, Pondok Hidayah, Sungai Chemubong, Jalan TJ, Stutong, Sungai Ibor, Industri Apas, Jalan KKIP Selatan, Kampung Bukit Lada, Teknologi Kesidang and Tropika.
