PETALING JAYA: Chinese New Year reunion dinners in Sarawak, the only state not under a full movement control order, will not be limited to those in the same household, a state assistant minister said today.
Sarawak tourism, arts and culture assistant minister Sebastian Ting told The Borneo Post that the state Disaster Management Committee will allow up to 20 people for the reunion dinner, which must be held at home.
He added that Sarawak’s rule was different from other states as it was the only state still under a conditional MCO.
The state’s standard operating procedures for the reunion dinner “takes into account the families of brothers and sisters, with nephews and nieces, who are living in the same town or city; it would be illogical not to allow them to practise this age-old tradition,” he said.
The state will also be allowing visits on the first day of the lunar new year, but this will only be for family members and up to 20 at any one time.
Hosts will be required to prepare temperature-scanning tools while visitors must register themselves either through MySejahtera, Qmunity or manually. -FMT
