Independent special committee on emergency holds first meeting

KUALA LUMPUR: The Independent Special Committee on Emergency 2021 today held a physical and virtual meeting.

The meeting, chaired by former chief justice Arifin Zakaria was attended by all 19 committee members who were appointed with the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah.

The meeting was briefed by minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law) Takiyuddin Hassan on emergency management, senior minister for security Ismail Sabri Yaakob on the implementation of the movement control order and health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah on the Covid-19 status.

The next meeting is scheduled to be held on Feb 23, the committee said in a statement today.

On Feb 9, the Prime Minister’s Office announced the list of 19 individuals appointed to the Independent Special Committee on Emergency 2021, chaired by Arifin, effective immediately.

The committee, set up under Section 2 of the Emergency (Essential Powers) Ordinance 2021, serves to advise the King on the emergency in Malaysia and the end of it.

The National Security Council in the Prime Minister’s Department will serve as the secretariat of the committee. - FMT
