Segambut MCA demanded local MP Hannah Yeoh show proof that her RM3.5 million annual constituency allocation is being channelled to a Perikatan Nasional politician instead.
Segambut MCA chief Daniel Ling said neither the party's division nor any of the PN volunteer teams in the constituency have ever been allocated or received any funding for their services.
Instead, he said MCA's community work is entirely independently funded.
"As the chairperson of Segambut's MPP (Resident Representative Council) as well as the Segambut division of the MCA, on behalf of PN party members serving in the MPP, I would like to ask Yeoh to come forward and produce evidence with proof that the RM3.5 million allocation was indeed channelled to a Segambut politician from PN, as alleged by her.
"We have no knowledge of such going-on either, and such evidence will be most useful to us.
"As this is a very serious accusation to make, if Yeoh fails to do so, we reserve the right to take appropriate legal action," Ling said in a statement today.
Yesterday, Yeoh had appealed for RM300,000 in donations to help pay for the running of her service centre for the rest of the year after losing her allocation following the Pakatan Harapan government's fall last year.
She posted on Facebook this morning that the fundraising campaign raised RM52,433.49 within 16 hours, which is about 17 percent of the funding goal.
In her appeal, she also said her office had previously channelled RM3.5 million from her allocation under Harapan into welfare aid and grants for associations in Segambut as well as for infrastructure projects.
However, the funding has dried up since the beginning of the year.
"This allocation has been redirected by the PN government to an unelected PN politician in Segambut. We have no details of their spending since the 'Sheraton Move'. No one knows.
"I have always published how I spent my allocation on my website. This has been a practice since I was the Subang Jaya assemblyperson, you can view it on my website […]
"Meanwhile, we will continue to ask for transparency on which PN politician is currently spending my MP allocation in Segambut," she said yesterday.
Meanwhile, Ling took exception to Yeoh's use of the term "unelected politician". He claimed it implied that 'nobody wants your help' if one is not elected.
"There is no law prohibiting an 'unelected politician' from serving the rakyat; in fact, the reason there are multiple 'unelected politicians' serving Segambut because the elected politician for Segambut herself is hardly ever seen on the ground helping the residents solve their woes and problems.
"I can only conclude that the DAP feels threatened by our service to the rakyat in Segambut, and that is why she is making such baseless accusations to tarnish our reputation and image," he said. - Mkini
