The Form 4 history curriculum, which recently came under some criticism from an Umno politician, was researched, reviewed and certified by the Education Ministry's History and Textbook Curriculum Expert Panel.
The Education Ministry said this in a statement in reply to the criticism of Umno Youth chief Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki who said that the Form 4 history textbook glorified communists and attacked the Pakatan Harapan government for it.
According to the Education Ministry, the publication was last updated after a meeting on April 24, 2018.
"The History Form 4 textbook is based on the KSSM (Standard Curriculum for Secondary Schools) and was updated in 2018 in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedures for the publications of textbooks.
"On April 24, 2018, the KSSM for Sejarah Form 4 was researched, reviewed and certified by an expert panel comprising seven historians from various specialisations and races."
The Education Ministry added that the selection of textbook authors is based on the Publication Procedure of the Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka Textbook and was made according to specific criteria.
"They must have a background of historical education as well as the experience of having written a History textbook," it said
The process of publishing the KSSM History Form 4 textbook has gone through strict quality control, including content mapping, writing manuscripts, proofreading, copy certification and other processes, it said.
"The Education Ministry also does fact verification of history and content from the government agencies involved such as the National Archive, National Museum, Malaysian Historical Society, Election Commission and state secretariats it said.
The ministry added that the History Form 4 textbook has complied with all publishing processes to ensure the quality of the textbook, including factual accuracy.
Asyraf had criticised Harapan over two pages of history textbooks about radical Malay leftist leaders' role in fighting for independence and the Malayan People's Anti-Japanese Army's (MPAJA) battle against the Japanese occupation.
His words drew a stinging rebuke from Harapan-era education minister Maszlee Malik who pointed out that all the changes took place when Umno's Mahadzir Khalid was helming the ministry.
"There is no intervention from Harapan and me in the process, although I knew that the referral experts were biased toward Umno," he said. - Mkini
