MP questions 'NFA' decision over portal posting seditious message in her name

Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh wants attorney-general Idrus Harun to explain why the case against an online portal which posted a seditious message in her name has been categorised as "no further action".

The now-defunct portal, muafakatnasional.net, had attributed a seditious message to Yeoh in June last year even though she had never made such a statement.

"I would like confirmation and explanation from the attorney-general about the NFA decision in relation to the investigation into the false statement that was attributed to me," she said.

Yeoh said the false statement attributed to her had caused public anger and she was even summoned by the police in June last year.

Police initially said Yeoh had made a statement that had "seditious tendencies" but later tracked down the perpetrator upon learning that it did not come from her.

Inspector-general of police Abdul Hamid Bador identified the perpetrator as muafakatnasional.net.

Yeoh asked why no action was taken even though the police had already identified the perpetrator.

"Did the attorney-general not consider the inspector-general of police's statement when making the NFA decision?

"Was the attorney-general's decision in line with the law or were there grounds that were unrelated to the law?" she asked. - Mkini
