PETALING JAYA: Former prime minister Najib Razak has taken a swipe at the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government over its “unique” Covid-19 lockdown rules.
In a Facebook post, Najib commented on the Kuala Lumpur police’s clarification that alcohol can be served at premises that have a restaurant licence.
Previously, restaurant and bar owners in the popular Telawi area of Bangsar had complained of confusing rules on the sale of alcohol after police raids.
Najib said under the rules, the government had not actually banned the sale of alcohol and that only pubs and nightclubs were barred from operating.
“However, most pubs and nightclubs have both alcohol and restaurant licences. This means these premises can operate to sell alcohol, only they cannot open their bar counter.”
Najib said waiters and waitresses can only serve alcohol to their customers at their premises.
“Malaysia’s lockdown is unique. You can buy 4D, go to night markets, drink alcohol at premises, fish, cut hair, go to public parks or beauty salons, students can go to school and you can even gamble in casinos.
“But MPs cannot attend pParliament because of the Covid-19 danger.”
A number of movement control order (MCO) restrictions have been relaxed in recent weeks though Parliament remains suspended under the state of emergency. - FMT
