KOTA KINABALU: Sabah recorded a new Covid-19 cluster today, in which the index case is a jewellery store sales personnel.
Sabah Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said the Jalan Chester Cluster, which originated in Tawau, now has seven new Covid-19 cases today, bringing the total cumulative cases to 10.
"The index case was found positive on Feb 2 and based on close contact screening, nine others were found to be infected," he said, adding contact tracing is ongoing for other possible cases.
The seven new cases from Jalan Chester Cluster were among 233 new Covid-19 infections registered in the state.
Three deaths were also reported, with one each in Tuaran, Tawau, and Kalabakan districts.
He said 288 patients were discharged from hospitals, while 1,745 others are still being treated at hospitals, quarantine centres, and temporary detention centres.
Masidi said 81 patients were also still warded in the intensive care units, while 25 Covid-19 patients required the aid of a ventilator for their breathing.
He also said that thus far until Feb 6, 6,929 food baskets have been distributed to affected people under the Bantuan Prihatin Covid-19 2.0. - NST
