PETALING JAYA: MCA's annual hosting of open house, dinners and media night will take a backseat this year in line with the standard operating procedure (SOP) for the Chinese New Year.
MCA secretary-general Datuk Chong Sin Woon said the decision is in adherence to the SOP as released by the National Security Council to prevent Covid-19 clusters arising from large gatherings, while keeping in mind the health and wellbeing of Malaysians.
''MCA will not be hosting the CNY festivities held annually, such as the MCA CNY open house, party veterans, Chinese guilds and associations' CNY dinner and media night.
''Nevertheless, in keeping the spirit and atmosphere of CNY alive and to usher in the Lunar Year of the Ox, MCA will celebrate CNY online, '' he said in a statement Monday (Feb 8).
Chong said MCA has produced a short video clip, themed “CNY at Home in Town/The City” (an alternative to “balik kampung”), besides organising a TikTok short video contest titled,"Cow Cow CNY".
''We invite everyone to participate, '' he added.
Chong also called on the Chinese community to observe this year’s CNY in the new normal by complying with all the SOPs and protecting oneself and each other. - Star
