Unwanted disruptions during online classes can come in many forms including the more disturbing instances of students allegedly playing porn, according to several teachers.
An educator, who wanted to be known as Teacher N, from a school in Kepong described one such incident involving a Form One student.
"The student disrupted the online teaching and learning process conducted through Google Meet by playing a porn video.
"This was done by a Form One student who dared to do it because the student had never met the teacher," Teacher N said.
Because of the student's troublesome behaviour in showing porn, there was no other option but to cancel the lesson at a loss to the rest of the students in class, Teacher N said, adding that others had also faced a similar situation.
Another teacher, who declined to be named, claimed that a class was previously cancelled after a student sent raunchy photos and porn videos.
"I was shocked by the incident, more so because there were around 100 students in the (online) class at the time.
"Just because of one naughty student, the entire lesson was cancelled," said the teacher, adding that the school's administration and district education officer have been informed of the matter last week.
A majority of students with the exception of those in examination years have yet to resume face-to-face classes for the 2021 school term that started on Jan 20.
A year into the Covid-19 pandemic, classes continue to be held online either at home or other suitable locations.
For students facing problems of poor Internet connection or unable to afford a device, there were teachers who had taken their own initiatives to provide the required materials in printed form. - Mkini
