KOTA KINABALU: Umno Supreme Council member Abdul Rahman Dahlan will be replacing former Sabah chief minister Shafie Apdal as the new pro-chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS).
The former Umno federal minister said this when making a courtesy call on Sabah chief minister Hajiji Noor at the state administrative centre (PPNS) here. Also present was UMS vice-chancellor Taufiq Yap Yun Hin.
Rahman added that he has also been made the new chairman of the UMS board of directors.
UMS has two pro-chancellors, with the other being Arab-Malaysian Banking Group chairman Azman Hashim.
According to a statement issued by the chief minister’s office today, Rahman informed Hajiji that he will be receiving his appointment letter from Sabah governor Juhar Mahiruddin soon.
Meanwhile, Rahman and Taufiq also briefed the chief minister on the latest developments and challenges faced by UMS.
This included students’ housing and the status of the UMS Smart Hospital building that has been delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Rahman also expressed the university’s keenness to work with the state science, technology and innovation ministry as its science and technology adviser. - FMT
