Bersatu deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu is reportedly slated to be appointed as the next Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) chairperson effective next month, according to financial daily The Malaysian Reserve, citing three industry sources.
The report quoted one of the sources as saying that the former Perak menteri besar would succeed KTMB chairperson Rameli Musa, whose three-year contract will expire at the end of this month.
Rameli, who is also the executive vice-chairperson and non-independent executive director of Ingress Corp Bhd, was appointed KTMB chairperson in February 2019.
"The contract is out for Ahmad Faizal to replace Rameli effective March 1," said an industry source, according to The Malaysian Reserve.
However, the report also quoted another source who said it is still not known whether Ahmad Faizal has accepted the offer.
The Tambun MP, meanwhile, reportedly claimed to be unaware of the matter.
"I do not have such information," he was quoted as saying.
Ahmad Faizal, who is also Chenderiang assemblyperson, resigned as Perak menteri besar last December after losing a motion of confidence at the state assembly.
KTMB is a wholly-owned company of the Minister of Finance Inc — a subsidiary of the Finance Ministry — with its train and rail operation regulated by the Transport Ministry.
According to The Malaysian Reserve, both the Transport Ministry and KTMB declined to comment. The Finance Ministry also said it cannot comment on speculation. - Mkini
