Senior citizen threatens to kill cop after flouting SOP

A senior citizen has allegedly threatened to kill a police officer on patrol duty in Petaling Jaya yesterday.

The incident happened at a restaurant at Taman Sri Manja around 9.30pm when a team of police officers were making their round and noticed several individuals flouting the movement control order's standard operating procedures (SOP) when they gathered at a table.

According to the SOP, only two people are allowed per table at a restaurant.

Petaling Jaya district police chief Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal said except for the 62-year-old man, all of those involved fled when they saw the police approaching them.

"He brazenly approached the police and threatened to kill one of the police officers.

"Then, he turned aggressive by kicking one of the officers when they were arresting him," he said in a statement.

Nik Ezanee said the suspect hurled profanity in the police station.

When asked whether the suspect was drunk, he said the man was not under the influence of alcohol.

The suspect, who has no criminal record, has been remanded for three days. He is being investigated under Section 506 and 186 of the penal code for intimidation and obstructing a public servant from carrying out their duties.

The man is also being investigated under Section 90 of the Police Act for disorderly misconduct, as well as being slapped with a RM1,000 compound for flouting the MCO SOP. - Mkini
