Sime Darby Plantation promises attractive packages to woo Malaysians

Sime Darby offers numerous attractive benefits to provide a ‘conducive working and living environment’ for both employees and their families in its oil palm plantations.

KUALA LUMPUR: A leading oil palm plantation company is embarking on an aggressive drive to woo Malaysians to work in its plantations and mills, promising attractive benefits and a conducive working and living environment for both employees and their families.

Sime Darby Plantation Bhd is calling on Malaysian job seekers to join the industry amid ample job opportunities throughout its upstream and downstream operations, with promises to quash the misconception that it is a dangerous, dirty and difficult (3D) sector.

Wooing Malaysians, it said, is also part of its effort to shore up the current labour shortage in the industry.

However, it did not make any mention of the salary range — a factor which would be crucial for locals to decide on joining the sector.

“It is unfortunate that over the years we have seen a steady decline in the interest of Malaysians, especially the younger generation, in taking up the various job opportunities that are available in this industry.

“Perhaps it is due to the misconception that this is a 3D industry.

“The fact of the matter is, today, this is no longer the case,” chief operations services officer Adi Wira Abd Razak said.

Sime Darby has been working to mechanise and digitise its fieldwork to improve work efficiency, productivity and ensure the safety of its workers at all times.

“We offer numerous attractive benefits to provide a conducive working and living environment for both employees and their families.

“This is part of our commitment to protect and respect the rights of all our employees, regardless of their gender, ethnic background and religion,” he said in a statement today.

The job opportunities offered also come with training, guidance and all the necessary support to equip new recruits with the skills they need to perform their work and build a progressive career in the plantation industry, he said.

“We have been actively recruiting locals in the past year and we hope to see the number of local hires increasing.

“The future prospects of this industry are bright because palm oil is such an important and valuable ingredient to the world.

“More than 50% of all the products you see on supermarket shelves around the world contain palm oil and it is not easily replaced by alternatives.

“For this reason, we believe that this industry will continue to thrive and provide a successful and satisfying long-term career path for those who would like to join the industry today,” he added. - FMT
