KOTA KINABALU: Spas, reflexology and wellness centres and public parks in Sabah will be allowed to re-open next Tuesday (Feb 23), says state Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun.
He said that SOPs for the re-opening of spas, reflexology and wellness centres were being put in place and gazetted.
"It will come into effect from Feb 23 after gazetted," he said during his daily briefing Friday (Feb 19).
His statement comes after wellness and reflexology associations questioned why the state government did not allow for their centres to be opened as similar centres have been allowed to operate in Peninsular Malaysia.
As for dine-ins, he said restaurants, coffee shops and food courts among others will be able to operate from 6am to midnight under the conditional movement control order, which came into effect on Friday.
On a question about appeals by tourism players to lift the district travel ban, Masidi said the National Security Council (NSC) was looking into the matter.
He said the state government was fully aware of the tourism industry's need for domestic tourist movement to help the industry that has been badly hit by the Covid-19 pandemic.
"One of the reasons why we were able to bring down our Covid-19 cases is due to the inter-district travel ban.We understand the concerns of the tourism sector. The government is looking into it," he said, adding that the overriding factor remains on the efforts to win the war against Covid-19. - Star
