A major gathering of Umno leaders to determine the party's political future last Friday was hit by Covid-19.
The Umno supreme council meeting in Janda Baik, Pahang, had, among them, a member who later tested positive for Covid-19.
He was Umno supreme council member Johan Abd Aziz, who was tested for Covid-19 last Saturday and the results returned positive yesterday.
The meeting, chaired by Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, was to determine the party's future with Perikatan Nasional (PN).
Those who were exposed to Johan, including Zahid, have now been placed under quarantine.
To date, it is not yet clear if other supreme council members have been infected.
The average incubation period of the virus is between five and six days.
Yesterday, Malaysiakini reported that the meeting had decided for Umno to sever ties with Bersatu when the emergency proclamation is lifted.
The emergency, which came into force on Jan 11, expires in August.
The government said the emergency was necessary to combat the Covid-19 pandemic.
Critics say it was to suspend Parliament so that Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin can remain in power after losing his majority in the Dewan Rakyat. - Mkini
