Police take statements from Tok Pa, 3 others over dine-in session

The police have taken statements from Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Economics) Mustapa Mohamed and three other individuals after they allegedly violated the standard operating procedure (SOP) by dining in while visiting a cafe at Kampung Kalai in Jeli, Kelantan last Saturday.

Jeli district police chief Ahmad Arifin said the police took the Jeli MP’s statements as well as that of two of his officers yesterday. The cafe owner was called in the day before yesterday.

“We have already taken statements from Mustapa and three individuals. Our investigations have also been completed.

“The case has been referred to the public prosecutor for further action, whether they will be compounded or charged in court,” he said when contacted by Malaysiakini today.

Malaysiakini reported yesterday that Mustapa, or fondly known as Tok Pa, was being investigated for violating the SOP by eating at a cafe.

Following that, the minister’s office issued a statement, saying that the minister would leave things to the police to take appropriate action.

Mustapa also admitted his wrongdoing and apologised.

Dine-in is not allowed during the lockdown. Food outlets are only allowed to sell food through takeaways, delivery and drive-through services.

Ahmad said the case was investigated under Section 269 of the Penal Code and Regulation 17(1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2021. - Mkini
