Teen who fainted after Covid-19 jab is fine

A teenager who fainted after being vaccinated for Covid-19 in Klebang, Malacca, yesterday is in good condition.

In a statement today, Malacca health deputy director Dr Rusdi Abd Rahman said the teenager's vitals were normal and left the vaccination centre after being observed for 30 minutes.

"A follow-up phone call with the family found that the teenager was healthy and behaving normally," said Rusdi.

He said that the teenager likely fainted because of anxiety, but was otherwise healthy.

On an incident involving a separate 12-year-old, Rusdi said that the patient had complained of headaches and fatigue after being vaccinated.

This person was also brought for observation at the vaccination centre and released after 30 minutes.

Deputy Health Minister Dr Noor Azmi Ghazali checking one of the teenagers.

Rusdi said that the 12-year-old did not get enough sleep the night before and did not have a proper breakfast before heading to the vaccination centre.

According to the Health Ministry, Deputy Health Minister Dr Noor Azmi Ghazali visited both children today at their homes in Bukit Katil, Malacca.

Noor Azmi, who ran a clinic in Bagan Serai up until he became a deputy minister, personally checked the two and was convinced they were fine.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin urged vaccine recipients to have a meal before heading to the vaccination centre and avoid strenuous activities after vaccination.  - Mkini
