Putrajaya will end the contact tracing system if the Covid-19 situation does not deteriorate after April 1, said Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.
Speaking to reporters in Putrajaya, Khairy said his ministry will have to study the impact of the reopening of borders and relaxing of Covid-19 protocols.
This process, said Khairy, will take a few weeks.
"If there are no significant changes, then we can stop (contact tracing)," said Khairy, according to The Vibes.
From April 1 onwards, international guests who are "fully vaccinated" will not have to go into quarantine upon arriving in Malaysia while those who are not will have to observe a five-day quarantine.
Additionally, rules limiting operating hours for eateries will be removed along with social distancing requirements for religious events.
Relaxing protocols
Vaccination was also no longer a requirement for inter-state travel or for determining the maximum capacity at workplaces.
The relaxing of Covid-19 protocols comes amidst preparation for the "transition to endemic phase", where Malaysians will have to live with Covid-19.
Some, such as the Malaysian Medical Association and Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan, have argued that MySejahtera's "contact tracing" capabilities were no longer relevant during the endemic phase.
Meanwhile, Khairy said the contract for MySejahtera will be finalised "within a month".
He also reiterated that all data collected through MySejahtera was safely in the hands of the government. - Mkini
