PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will not entertain Edisi Siasat’s (ES) “wild” allegation that it had closed a case involving an immigration officer who owns a Rolls-Royce Phantom.
This came after the whistleblower site claimed that it had learned the case was settled after MACC received a huge sum of money.
MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki said ES should lodge a report if they think the allegation was true.
“Ask ES to lodge a report saying that MACC had ‘kawtim’ (settled) the case,” he told FMT.
In November 2020, MACC had hauled 28 immigration officers and personnel in Selangor and Johor after they were alleged to have been involved in an activity of misusing the stamp at the country’s borders.
A source at the time told Kosmo that an immigration staff of Grade 19 earning less than RM4,000 a month was in possession of several luxury cars, including a Rolls-Royce Phantom, Ford Mustang, Range Rover, and an Audi, which were all registered under the names of two foreign worker agents from China.
The report stated that the vehicles were given as a reward for helping set up a counter for the agents at the border. - FMT
