Pahang state govt owns Bukit Raka project - Housing Ministry

The Ministry of Housing and Local Government denied that it is developing an affordable housing project near the Kuala Raka Forest Reserve in Bentong, Pahang.

Instead, the ministry claimed that the Pahang state government owns the development project

This followed the discovery of a notice board that stated that the area, which covers 31.556 hectares (about the size of 44 football fields), is being cleared for an affordable housing project.

According to an oral answer dated March 2, the Housing Ministry stated that the development project, which is located near Bukit Raka, is not owned by the ministry.

“Projek PR1MA located at Lot 4623, PA8569, Bentong, is a project under the Pahang state government.

"Therefore, the approval of the project is not under PR1MA supervision," the Housing Ministry said.

It added that there are three PR1MA projects in Pahang in total, all located in Kuantan and none in Bentong.

The ministry said this in response to a question raised in Parliament by Bentong MP Wong Tack.

The DAP lawmaker demanded that the Housing Ministry explains the details of the Bukit Raka housing project in order to get approval from the authorities.

Pahang govt refuted logging claims

On Jan 19, residents of Taman Shahbandar Height raised suspicion on illegal logging activities in the Kuala Raka Forest Reserve.

They claimed they heard the sounds of trees being felled in the forest reserve land.

Pahang Menteri Besar Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail refuted claims that illegal logging activities were taking place.

Malaysiakini's visit on Jan 21 witnessed logging workers driving an excavator to clear the forest, and the logs were later ferried away in trucks.

Notice boards at the site issued by the Bentong Forestry Department confirmed that a PR1MA housing project would be built after the clearing activities. - Mkini
