A viral video of a man refusing to wear a face mask in a grocery store has led to his arrest last night, said Wangsa Maju district police chief Ashari Abu Samah.
Ashari said the 44-year-old man voluntarily gave his police statement at 8.30pm last night at the Wangsa Maju district police headquarters, after realising the video of him had gone viral.
This led to the police arresting him for further investigation, he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 269 of the Penal Code on reckless actions that may cause the spread of dangerous disease which is punishable with six months in jail, a fine, or both.
The suspect is also being investigated under Section 14 of the Minor Offence Act for insulting behaviour, and Regulation 18 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act (Measures within Infected Local Areas).
On Sunday (April 17), the Wangsa Maju police station put out a media broadcast regarding the video.
The video depicted the suspect, without a mask, verbally insulting a security officer working at a Village Grocer outlet along Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur. - Mkini
