MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong has paid a courtesy visit to Communist Party of China's (CPC) International Liaison Department Minister Liu Jianchao.
Among the issues discussed during the one-hour session were on strengthening bilateral cooperation in politics, economy and trade cooperation between Malaysia and China as well as the Belt and Road initiative.
A statement posted on Dr Wee's Facebook account stated that the meeting was also held to discuss the long-standing ties between MCA and CPC established since 1994.
"Our respective party leaders have constantly held engagement (sessions) and mutual visits to promote economic and trade collaboration.
"In the dialogue with CPC, Dr Wee shared that MCA seeks to underscore the need to strengthen and deepen the bilateral relationship between the parties and both nations."
Also present were MCA deputy president Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon, secretary-general Datuk Chong Sin Woon and vice-president and Chinese Affairs Committee chairman Datuk Tan Teik Cheng.
Liu said he hoped Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim would strengthen the collaboration with China in various sectors, including politics, economy and education.
Dr Wee said MCA would play an active role in the basic infrastructure development, which is part of the Belt and Road initiative.
He also said that MCA would do its very best to cooperate with the International Liaison Department to promote and implement projects that will benefit people from both the countries.
The Ayer Itam MP, who is with the Prime Minister on his official visit in Beijing, China, also attended a buka puasa event with Malaysians in the country.
"About 300 guests attended the event at the Malaysian Embassy in Beijing.
"The Prime Minister also gave a speech and had a Q&A session with the Malaysians here," he said.
