SHAH ALAM: The fire and rescue department has identified and will place fire engines and personnel at 14 accident hotspots along all expressways nationwide.
Director-general Wahab Mat Yasin said the move was to speed up response time, especially during peak hours involving fire brigades and emergency medical rescue services (EMRS) to the areas.
“Patrol teams will be on standby along the expressway from April 20 to 27. This will involve 252 personnel working round the clock on 12-hour shifts.
“Apart from that, we will also take precautionary measures by patrolling hotspots for drowning cases as well as popular and high-risk recreational areas,” he said when launching the festive season safety campaign here today.
In a separate development, Wahab said wiring problems had been identified as the main cause of building fires during the Aidilfitri celebration last year.
The other causes were “thermal resistance”, short circuits and electrical overload of equipment. - FMT
