PETALING JAYA: An 18-month-old toddler in Kelantan is said to have died of a heatstroke on Tuesday, which means there have been two heatstroke-related deaths this week.
The father, Ahmad Faris Fazli Nasir, had brought his daughter, Nur Imani, to the emergency department of the Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital after she started vomiting.
Faris, who resides in Kampung Kota in Kota Bharu, said his daughter, who was his only child, had been coughing the past week before she started vomiting a few days ago, according to Berita Harian.
“The doctor who treated her gave some medicine and said to take her home. However, her condition worsened before she died at about 7.20am on Tuesday,” he said.
An autopsy on Nur Imani determined that a heatstroke was the cause of death. Faris claimed his daughter’s lungs had shrivelled up.
Earlier, Sinar Harian reported that an 11-year-old boy in Bachok, Kelantan, also died of heatstroke and dehydration on Tuesday.
On Monday, the meteorological department said seven areas in the Peninsula were in the “warning category” for hot weather after recording temperatures of 35-37°C.
It also advised people to take extra precautions by drinking at least eight glasses of water daily to stay cool and hydrated as the heat wave was linked to hazy conditions. - FMT
