IPOH: "Is it 'ayaq' or 'ayor'?" Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim asked a drink seller at the Taman Jati Ramadan bazaar here, drawing laughter from the gathered crowd.
"It's 'ayor', we are Perak people," the drink seller responded with a laugh.
The Prime Minister was heard asking about the quip Bersatu deputy president Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu made during a walkabout at the Ramadan bazaar on Monday (April 10).
Before the 15th General Election, former Tambun MP Ahmad Faizal had in a short video reminded Anwar how to speak the local dialect.
The Malay word for water, "air", in the Perak slang is "ayor" and not "ayaq" as used in Penang.
The Tambun MP's visit to the bazaar was warmly welcomed by traders and visitors.
Some traders gifted him with some cakes and the Prime Minister also bought pancakes and roti jala there.
Accompanying Anwar was Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, Perak state secretary Datuk Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahim and state executive council member Sandrea Ng. - Star
