Bersatu rejected Zuraida’s bid to rejoin party, says youth chief

Zuraida Kamaruddin quit Bersatu in May last year to join newly-formed Parti Bangsa Malaysia only to be sacked in December.

PETALING JAYA: Former Ampang MP Zuraida Kamaruddin had applied earlier this year to rejoin Bersatu, which she left almost a year ago, a Bersatu leader has revealed.

However, the application was rejected as Zuraida had previously refused to step down from her ministerial post, to which she had been appointed on a Bersatu quota, after quitting the party, Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal said.

“The decision to reject her application was unanimous,” he told FMT.

She had joined Bersatu after being sacked from PKR in the wake of the Sheraton Move in 2020.

In the last general election, she stood under the PBM ticket in a bid to defend her seat, but lost to Pakatan Harapan’s Rodziah Ismail. Zuraida only managed to secure 4,589 votes in a nine-cornered fight. Rodziah won by 29,681 votes.

However, in December, Zuraida was sacked by PBM along with 10 others after they failed to respond to show cause letters.

Last month, Zuraida told FMT she did not intend to contest in any of the upcoming state elections and would instead back candidates from Perikatan Nasional.

She is currently with Muafakat Nasional, the NGO headed by Annuar Musa, and was made its deputy president in January. - FMT
