PUTRAJAYA: Unhealthy air quality readings have been recorded in Cheras, Tanah Merah and Segamat.
The Malaysian Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) showed that at 4pm today, Cheras in Kuala Lumpur, Tanah Merah in Kelantan and Segamat in Johor recorded Air Pollutant Index (API) readings of 147, 102 and 145, respectively.
An API reading between 0 and 50 is categorised as good, 51 to 100 is moderate, 101 to 200 is unhealthy, 201 to 300 is very unhealthy and 300 and above is hazardous.
According to the APIMS, 64 areas recorded moderate API readings, including Banting and Johan Setia in Selangor, Kuala Terengganu in Terengganu, Larkin in Johor and Kota Baru in Kelantan.
Earlier today, Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said he had instructed the Department of Environment to monitor API readings across the country.
He urged the department to beef up enforcement on open burning and activities that can contribute to haze and air pollution. - NST
