Come home to vote, Kelantan MB urges those outstation

Kelantan menteri besar Ahmad Yakob said the struggle to establish Islam as the basis of governance would take 10 to 30 years.

PETALING JAYA : Kelantan menteri besar Ahmad Yakob has urged voters living or working away from the state to return home for the state assembly elections due this year.

Ahmad said their votes would be key to ensuring a victory by PAS and Perikatan Nasional, Sinar Harian reported.

“We want Islam to be the basis of governance and this struggle will take between 10 and 30 years. We want the support of all the people of Kelantan at the state elections so that our plans can be executed better,” he said at a Hari Raya event in Kelantan yesterday.

PAS holds 36 seats and Bersatu, its partner in Perikatan Nasional, holds one seat in the 45-member state assembly. Barisan Nasional, with seven seats held by Umno, forms the opposition.

Kelantan is among six states which must hold elections to their legislatures this year, after the term of the state assemblies expires in June. The other states are Kedah, Terengganu, Penang, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan.

Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu are run by PAS-led governments, while Pakatan Harapan controls Penang, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan. - FMT
