PETALING JAYA: Negeri Sembilan police have opened an investigation paper against a 16-year-old schoolboy for attempted suicide last month after he was accused of inppropriate behaviour with a female classmate.
Jempol police chief Hoo Chang Hook said the accusation had left the boy embarrassed and caused him emotional stress. He said the boy had lodged a police report to deny any wrongdoing.
Yesterday, the parents had alleged that their son had tried to harm himself after being bullied and humiliated by teachers.
He had been accused by a teacher of engaging in “inappropriate behaviour” with a female friend in March.
Human rights activist Arun Dorasamy said the discipline teacher had forced the pair to sign a declaration letter about their actions. He said the boy was expelled on April 3.
Arun said the schoolboy had been bullied by his teachers once before last year.
Attempted suicide is a criminal offence in the Penal Code, which provides a penalty of imprisonment of up to a year’s jail, a fine, or both.
Earlier this month, the government said the section would be repealed but “aiding and abetting” suicide would remain a criminal offence, with penalties strengthened in cases of aiding suicide involving children and mentally incapacitated people. - FMT
