A Kedah PKR leader has rubbished state Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor's claim that there was a plan to remove him as the state representative in the National Finance Council.
Kedah PKR vice chief Nor Azrina Surip said this is unfeasible as the Federal Constitution does not empower the prime minister to make such a decision.
“In Article 108 of the Federal Constitution, the National Finance Council must be headed by the prime minister or any appointed minister, while each state is represented by an individual approved by the sultan or the governor.
“It clearly shows that the prime minister does not have the authority to name anyone, other than individuals who are approved by the sultan, if we look at it in the context of Kedah,” Nor Azrina (above) said in a statement.
As such, she urged Sanusi to stop lying about the federal government or Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
She reminded Sanusi that the Kedah sultan had said during his address to the state legislative assembly to avoid over-politicking and to always work to maintain relationships, specifically between the state and federal governments.
‘Sultan stressed political stability’
The ruler had also stressed the importance of political stability for the rakyat’s benefits, she said.
Yet Sanusi had repeatedly brought up issues that could cause friction between the state and federal governments such as claiming last month that he had been barred from federal events.
“I am sure the menteri besar fully understands that Islam teaches its people to always be honest in whatever they do, including in what they say.
“This clearly shows that such lies should not be uttered, even if it was meant as a joke to attract the attention or support of the people,” Nor Azrina said.
Sanusi had yesterday claimed that there was a plot to replace him on the National Finance Council with the secretary of the Kedah government, Norizan Khazali.
However, he could not offer any proof at the time.
Sanusi had also previously claimed that he was barred from attending federal events, including the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2023 (Lima 2023), next month. - Mkini
