PETALING JAYA: The management of a convention centre caught in a row between a minister and a menteri besar, confirmed it had not issued any quotation for a “buka puasa” event organised by the Kedah government.
Mardi Corporation Sdn Bhd (Mardi Corp), which manages the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS), also said it did not issue any letter of acceptance on the rental to the state government.
“The statement by agriculture and food security minister Mohamad Sabu is correct,” it said in a statement, referring to the comment by the minister that the event had not even been approved.
On Friday morning, Mohamad denied Kedah menteri besar Sanusi Nor’s claim that a “buka puasa” event the latter was going to attend in Serdang, Selangor, was not permitted by the government.
Mohamad, who is also known as Mat Sabu, said he was puzzled by Sanusi’s claim as MAEPS’ management had yet to approve the use of the venue for the event.
Last night however, Sanusi’s political secretary accused Mohamad of lying when denying the allegations.
Hilmi Wahab claimed that he had made arrangements to rent one of the halls at MAEPS for the event.
He added that he had gone to check the venue on March 23 before agreeing on the rental fee and an additional RM70,000 payment for catering.
He claimed that a week later the caterer informed him that the event was not going to take place at the venue, with the decision purportedly coming from the “ministerial level”. - FMT
