PETALING JAYA: It is an offence to upload and circulate obscene content online, a deputy minister has warned following a viral video allegedly showing a young couple engaging in an indecent act in a car.
Teo Nie Ching said uploading such content was an offence under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act, which dealt with improper use of network facilities, Bernama reported.
“If someone uploads (such) content (through) social media, (they) can be investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act,” she was quoted as saying.
The deputy communications and digital minister advised the public to be careful when sharing content online.
Teo was asked to comment on a viral video which allegedly showed the young couple engaging in an indecent act in a car.
The couple, who has since been detained, claimed that the men who recorded the video had posed as policemen and demanded to check their identity cards.
Teo said the ministry, via the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), would cooperate with the police in their investigation. - FMT
