JOHOR BAHRU: The seat negotiations for the upcoming state elections will be a test of the unity government’s spirit of cooperation, MCA president Wee Ka Siong said.
He said his party had yet to receive any information about the negotiations, including among Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties.
“I think we have to wait and look at the new political scenario, how the unity government’s spirit of cooperation will be translated.
“Not everyone will get all (seats), there may be some who won’t get all (seats), so how will it translate in the concept of togetherness?” he told reporters after a breaking of fast event with the media at Hotel Trove here.
Wee added that detailed discussions were needed as the unity government was a grand coalition.
He added that MCA was ready for discussions and felt that a suitable time would be after Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
He was commenting on PH secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail’s statement yesterday that parties that won seats in the 14th general election would defend the seats in the upcoming state elections.
Saifuddin had also said that the decision was reached through first-round discussions over seats between PH and BN. - FMT
