Paranormal defence: Murdered husband tells court wife is innocent

The case involving a former election candidate took a paranormal twist when the “spirit” of her murdered husband exonerated her.

Lau Seck Yan (above), who contested as an independent candidate in the 2018 Port Dickson by-election, was brought to the Seremban High Court this morning.

According to Oriental Daily News, she sought permission from the judge to speak. The court was stunned when the accused claimed to be the deceased instead.

“I am Poh Seng Hiap, the deceased. I am the one speaking in court. My wife did not kill me… My wife did not do anything,” she said.

At this point, judge Rohani Ismail told the accused to wait for her trial to commence before making statements related to the case.

The accused, however, repeated the same statements but was eventually persuaded to stop speaking.

The report claimed that while others were surprised over the incident, the couple’s daughter, who was also present, remained calm.

The court later fixed the hearing for March 2025, prompting the accused to speak again. She requested that the trial dates be brought forward and that she be accorded a fair hearing.

However, Rohani said she is the sole criminal judge in Negeri Sembilan and based on her work schedule, these were the earliest available dates.

‘I didn’t kill him! He pushed me!’

Lau, 55, was first charged with the murder at the Seremban Magistrate’s Court in January last year.

At the time the accused told the media that she did not murder her husband as the police escorted her into the courtroom.

“I didn’t kill him! He pushed me! He attacked me!

“I didn’t kill anyone! I am the victim… They want to investigate me according to Section (302), which is not fair to me… The officer refused to investigate under another section,” she had said.

Lau repeated the same remarks in court when the charge was read.

Her counsel Ng Kian Nam had requested the court to send his client for psychiatric evaluation but this was denied.

Lau had allegedly stabbed her 55-year-old accountant husband in the chest and waist at their home at the Rasah Kemayan Golf and Country Township in Seremban.

Two of the couple’s four children were believed to have witnessed the attack. - Mkini
