PETALING JAYA: The Dewan Rakyat has approved the formation of a new All-Party Parliamentary Group Malaysia (APPGM) on Integrity, Governance and Anti-Corruption.

In a statement, the group said the APPGM is now chaired by Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) Ledang MP Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh and consists of 13 MPs from both the government and opposition blocs.

The MPs involved include Mas Ermieyati Samsudin (PN-Masjid Tanah), Young Syefura Othman (PH-Bentong), Roy Angau Gingkoi (GPS-Lubok Antu) and Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal (PN-Machang). Dewan Negara’s Senator Prof Awang Sariyan is also a member.

Under former prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s administration, the APPGM was chaired by former Tumpat MP Che Abdullah Mat Nawi.

The group said its main focus would be implementing institutional and parliamentary reforms, ensuring the independence of the judiciary, reviewing the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act and separating the powers of the attorney-general and the public prosecutor.

It will also be looking to enact the Government Procurement Act and the Political Funding Act, as well as fully implementing the National Anti-Corruption Plan (NACP).

“This will be achieved through the collective efforts of MPs, senators, civil society organisations (CSOs) and experts in related fields,” it said.

The group also consists of seven CSOs – Rasuah Busters; Transparency International Malaysia; the Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs (IDEAS); veterans group Patriot; Undi18; the Bar Council; and the Center to Combat Corruption and Cronyism (C4).

Rasuah Busters will serve as the secretariat for APPGM.
