PKR deputy secretary-general Dr Sathia Prakash Nadarajan has denied reports that he will be running for the Rawang state seat to replace incumbent Chua Wei Kiat.
Any decision regarding PKR candidacy in the state polls will be determined by party president Anwar Ibrahim, he said.
“There has been no official announcement so far regarding the name of the candidates who will be contesting in the state elections.
“The report is inaccurate. Any official decision will be made by the party leadership, which is chaired by the president,” Sathia (above) told Malaysiakini.
He said this when asked to comment on media reports alleging that he has set his sights on the Rawang state seat.
Earlier, Sin Chew Daily reported that Sathia, who heads the party's Hulu Selangor division, has intentions to contest in Rawang after he was often seen in the area.
“As the head of the division, I often go to Rawang to meet the Hulu Selangor parliamentary voters who live there.
“As we know, Rawang is an area located on the border of Hulu Selangor.
“Besides, I also have a clinic in Rawang,” he explained.
Sathia contested in the Hulu Selangor parliamentary seat during the 15th general election.
However, he was defeated by Perikatan Nasional’s Hasnizan Harun with a slim majority of 1,562 votes in a six-way tussle.
The Hulu Selangor federal seat has a total of 154,317 voters. - Mkini
