KUALA LUMPUR: The Human Resources Ministry has distanced itself from the newly launched Foreign Employee Recruitment and Human Resource Management System (SPDRM).
The ministry said a claim that it fully supports SPDRM for foreign workers recruitment was untrue as it had never held any discussion with any party in relation to the system.
"The ministry hopes that this explanation will answer any query or confusion arising amongst employers or the industry, especially among the Diplomatic Representatives of the Source Countries in Malaysia in regards to the issue of the SPDRM," the ministry said in a statement today.
On Friday, Malaysia International Tourism Development Association (MiTDA) chief executive officer Capt Mahadzir Mansor said that SPDRM facilitates the recruitment of foreign workers without the involvement of any middlemen.
He had told a press conference that with a mere payment of RM1,000, an employer is able to recruit foreign workers to work in various sectors without risks of being cheated, said in the press conference.
He also claimed that the new system is fully supported by the Human Resources Ministry.
However, Indonesian ambassador Hermono said that there was no discussion between Malaysia and Indonesia on the system.
He had also said he was unaware of such a system, and whether it was officially managed by the government or by private agencies. - NST
