A special police task force formed to probe alleged insults on rulers, religion, and race (3R) has since its formation last month opened seven cases and detained two suspects.
The investigation papers were opened between March 27 and April 6, with a one-week target for submission to the Attorney-General’s Chambers, according to police secretary Noorsiah Mohd Saaduddin in a statement today.
“The task force is led by the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigations Department (CID) director and tasked to probe cases involving insults on rulers, religion, and race.
“Investigations will be carried out by the CID D5 unit. The objective of the task force is to ensure investigations are carried out swiftly and the papers submitted to the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) in seven days,” she said.
Of the seven cases, Noorsiah said four involved insults against rulers, two on religion, and one on race.
The two arrested were suspected of insulting royalties and race, while police are also identifying another suspect.
“Three of the cases have been referred to the AGC while another four are still being probed,” she added.
Further, Noorsiah reminded the public against uploading any images or videos that touch on the 3R, with the potential to trigger public unrest.
Last month, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said there will be zero tolerance toward any attempts to incite racial or religious sentiments in the country. - Mkini
