KUALA LUMPUR: Supermax Corporation Bhd is urging former migrant employees to apply for reimbursement of any fees paid to obtain employment at the company.

In a statement today, the glove company said this was to complete a transformation of its labour policies.

Supermax said it was continuing to conduct an outreach campaign to follow up on earlier efforts implemented in Nepal and Bangladesh, asking former workers who had paid recruitment fees to seek reimbursement.

Founder and executive chairman Stanley Thai said finding every worker who had paid a recruitment fee was the company’s goal.

Supermax established a sinking fund in March 2022 to repay the recruitment fees of former workers who had returned to their native countries.

The fund is managed by an advisory and governance committee headed by Elevate, a globally-renowned environmental, social and governance, sustainability and supply chain services provider.

The committee is guided by independent migrant workers’ rights specialist Adrian Pereira, executive director of the North-South Initiative, a Malaysian-based NGO that advocates migrant rights. - FMT
