PETALING JAYA: An Umno Youth leader has apologised to Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh for posting comments that were critical of her on social media three years ago.
In a statement, Yeoh said Umno Youth executive council member Najmil Faiz Aris had also agreed to remove the posts he made on March 10, 2020, after agreeing on a court settlement.
The youth and sports minister said Najmil’s apology had been published on his Twitter and Facebook pages.
Najmil had accused the DAP leader of “trying to incite fear among the community by criticising Muslim leaders (over the issue of child marriages), making it seem as though Islam supported underage marriages”.
In March 2020, after the fall of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government, Yeoh questioned whether the National Strategic Plan in Handling the Causes of Child Marriage would be sidelined by the new administration.
The former deputy women, family and community development minister had voiced her concern following the appointment of PAS’ Zailah Yusoff as her successor.
Najmil then commented on social media, criticising Yeoh over her statement. - FMT
