PUTRAJAYA: The government is identifying suitable training projects for Malaysian talents in preparing them for job opportunities in projects undertaken by foreign investors here.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said there were instances where only a small group of locals were employed, while the companies brought along their own workers.
Anwar, who is finance minister, said he would once again emphasise the matter in the Cabinet meeting tomorrow.
"While we wish to attract investments in the country, we must also ensure that we have the capacity and infrastructure.
"All agencies including Bank Negara must look at this and see how we can make full use of the (huge foreign) investments," he said at the Finance Ministry assembly today.
Anwar had on April 1 announced a record RM170 billion in investment commitments from China.
This is a result of 19 memoranda of understanding between businesses in China and Malaysia.
China has remained Malaysia's largest trading partner for 14 consecutive years, with total trade at US$110.6 billion in 2022.
It was the biggest foreign direct investor in Malaysia last year, with investments amounting to US$12.5 billion. - NST
