PETALING JAYA: Barisan Nasional will contest more than five state assembly seats in Selangor at the coming state election, according to Jamal Yunos, a Selangor Umno committee member.
“All I can say is that BN will get more than the existing five seats,” he told FMT.
In the previous state election in 2018, BN won in Sungai Air Tawar, Sungai Burong, Sungai Panjang and Hulu Bernam, and Semenyih in a 2019 by-election, wresting the seat from Pakatan Harapan (PH).
“There is a possibility that the number of seats contested (by BN) will be announced this Friday at the launch of the Selangor unity coalition’s election machinery,” said Jamal.
Seat negotiations between PH and BN in Selangor went well, he said.
11 seats for BN, focus on Tengku Zafrul
A Selangor PH leader, who declined to be named, said BN was likely to be given 11 seats to contest. The source declined to name the seats.
“However, I can share that Tengku Zafrul Aziz is expected to contest the Paya Jaras seat,” the leader told FMT, on the seat previously held by Khairuddin Othman of PKR.
“Talks are ongoing about him being the potential menteri besar candidate should PH-BN win the state and he wins the Paya Jaras seat,” the source said.
Before the dissolution of the state assembly, PH held 40 seats in the 56-member legislature, followed by BN (5), PN (5), Parti Bangsa Malaysia (2), Warisan (1), Pejuang (1) and independent (1). The Batang Kali seat was declared vacant in February this year. - FMT
