A luxury vehicle belonging to Pengkalan Chepa MP Ahmad Marzuk Shaary has gone viral yet again after it was caught on video overtaking several vehicles on a double-lined road.
According to Setiu district police chief Affandi Hussin, the Toyota Alphard bearing the registration number plate P45 was handled by the 30-year-old driver of the former deputy minister, when the incident happened about 3.30pm on July 2 at Kilometre 67 of the Kuala Terengganu-Kota Bharu road in Setiu.
A video of the incident was shared by Facebook user Abu Zaid Al-Harith and went viral.
"The driver overtook the double-lined road as he was in a rush to reach his destination to avoid meat for Hari Raya Haji from going bad.
"The vehicle was on its way from Kampung Gunong Bachok in Kelantan to Kampung Sungai Merak Dalam in Bangi, Selangor, to deliver about 50kg of the meat to the residents," Affandi told Malaysiakini when contacted.
Affandi said the police will call up the driver to have his statement recorded today.
"Police have also issued a summons to the driver for overtaking on a double-lined road,” he said.
This is not the first time Marzuk's vehicle has been embroiled in such an issue.
In September 2021, the PAS lawmaker, who was then deputy minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs), was forced to apologise after the same vehicle was caught being driven in a dangerous manner.
The incident reportedly happened when the driver was rushing to pick up Marzuk to go to the airport. - Mkini
