PETALING JAYA: The dress code affair involving a Rela guard at the Socso office in Penang was an isolated case and should not be blown out of proportion, home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said today.
“We should be fair to the thousands of other Rela members who are responsible for guarding government buildings,” he said after launching the 51st anniversary celebrations of the volunteer corps in Sungai Petani.
A Rela guard at the Socso building in Penang was reported to have attempted to prevent a non-Muslim woman visitor from entering the building last week over the length of her skirt.
Saifuddin said the issue should not be blown out of proportion, while Rela would also look to improve its service.
The Rela member involved was suspended for acting out of his jurisdiction, Socso said later, adding that there was no dress code for visitors at its offices beyond a sign advising visitors to dress appropriately, as is common in government buildings. - FMT
