Representatives of major political coalitions will discuss the "Green Wave" witnessed in the 15th general election (GE15), and whether Perikatan Nasional will ride the momentum to expand its influence in the upcoming state polls, in a forum organised by Malaysiakini.
The forum titled “State polls: How far will the ‘Green Wave’ go?”, scheduled at 8pm on Thursday (July 6) will feature Selangor PN secretary Dr Afif Bahardin, PKR's Bukit Lanjan assemblyperson Elizabeth Wong, and Umno Youth permanent chairperson Wan Agyl Wan Hassan.
Taking place at the Kuala Lumpur Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall in Kampung Attap, Kuala Lumpur, the forum will also see Malaysiakini editor Andrew Ong discuss the findings of the Kini News Lab's analysis of GE15 polling data.
The analysis, among others, found that given certain assumptions, Kedah is expected to be a front-line state among the six state elections set to happen concurrently soon.
The Election Commission is due to meet on July 5 to decide the polling dates, which many expect will be in August.
S’gor no longer Harapan’s stronghold?
The Kini News Lab analysis also found that even in Selangor, a state many assumed to be a Pakatan Harapan stronghold, the coalition's grip is not as strong.
Using polling district voting data, it found that PN could secure a simple majority of 29 seats to form a new Selangor government if they can swing half of those who voted for BN in GE15 and 2 percent from Harapan.
The interactive article discussing these findings also features a calculator, allowing readers to predict the outcome of the state elections based on their prediction of voter turnout and vote swing.
