An MIC leader has dismissed a claim that more of the party's members will quit and join Perikatan Nasional (PN).
MIC central working committee member L Sivasubramaniam called the claim, made by the opposition coalition's Selangor chapter in a Facebook post, a "provocative, cheap political move" ahead of the looming state election.
"The election is near. The allegation that more MIC members will quit the party to join PN is utterly untrue.
"These are all political games. If it (the claim) is true, I dare PN to prove it," he told Malaysiakini.
Sivasubramaniam was responding to a Facebook post by Selangor PN yesterday that many MIC members, especially in Selangor, have lost faith in the party's leadership, and are set to join PN to champion the Indian cause.
According to the post, Pakatan Harapan has also become irrelevant in carrying the Indian voice, as the coalition has not delivered on its promises.
It further claimed that MIC started losing Indian votes since BN fell in Selangor in 2008, and has struggled ever since to regain the community's support.
"This happened because the Indian community's loyalty was abused, causing the Indians to shift alliance," it claimed. - Mkini
