Muda to sell otak-otak, shoes, personal assets to fund campaign

 

Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said every leader in the party would have his or her own initiatives to raise funds for campaigning in the state elections.

PETALING JAYA: Muda will be selling otak-otak and other stuff to help raise funds for its election campaign in six states, said its president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.

Syed Saddiq, who is also Muar MP, said the otak-otak from Muar would be sold online.

“All Muda leaders and grassroots member will have their own initiatives for crowdfunding.

“There are some in Sabah who will probably sell sneakers. Some might sell their personal assets,” he told a press conference here.

Muda vice-president Siti Rahayu Baharin said she would be opening a food stall to help raise funds for the party.

“We want to prove that contesting in the state elections is not only for those who have money but for all Malaysians, from all backgrounds.”

Syed Saddiq added that Muda needed to think outside the box to fund its election campaign as it was not part of any state government.

The former youth and sports minister expressed confidence that the party’s initiative would be successful, saying he had undertaken similar initiatives previously.

“Muda has always been a party which is reliant on small public donations.

“Previously, we were successful in crowdfunding close to RM3 million to run our day-to-day operations and support the underprivileged.

“Even during my first term as an MP, I was largely reliant on crowdfunding after the previous (Perikatan Nasional-led) government cut allocations (when Syed Saddiq joined the opposition),” he said. - FMT
